This is an experimental light project done with designer Jie Qian.
This work involves the concept of interactive arts by challenging people’s response towards an opportunity to break fragile objects. The light shell is made of plaster and it resembles an egg shell in terms of appearance and fragileness. The thinking is except for the shell and the hammer set up on the cement base, there would be no explanation for the users (participants). Users could either leave it just like the origin, break a part of the shell or totally destroy the shell.
With this fascinating yet fragile shell and the allowance of destroying it, we want to question if breaking beautiful things an instinct of human beings. Furthermore, the light shell is neither disposable nor designed to be last for a long time, which also reveals our concern of Fetishism that people tend to keep a products always in the same condition throughout its life-cycle.
